Carlton Auto Engineering

We are a small, family run, motor vehicle repair workshop which is part of a national franchise group. We were established in 1984 and specialise in clutch repairs. We have four members of staff including two partners who are fully involved with the day to day running of the company.

What were your payroll needs?

I have used Sage payroll for over 10 years but I discovered that they were stopping Instant payroll which was ideal for my small business. Sage 50 was to be the alternative but it is far too complex for my needs and of course the cost was also increasing!! When the time came for me to start with auto enrolment and setting up a pension scheme for my 2 employees, I felt the Sage system was far too complicated for my needs.

 

Why move to BrightPay?

Having decided that Sage 50 was not for me, I looked on the HMRC website for suggestions for alternative payroll suppliers. I found BrightPay and others (IRIS, 12pay, payroo, etc). Having watched the BrightPay demonstration video I decided to register for an online demo. It only took about 30 minutes followed by a Q & A session. The demo showed me how simple the software was and how quickly I could process our wages.

As a business owner, time is precious as I have many time consuming roles in the company. I wanted something simple and quick to use. BrightPay is very automated and intuitive. I was guided through the process of auto enrolment and setting up our chosen pension scheme without difficulty. BrightPay processes payroll, prints payslip, communicates RTI information and submits information to our chosen pension scheme (NEST) all with ease. My monthly payroll takes me 5 minutes to process.

 

What are your favourite things about BrightPay?

BrightPay has freed my time up by its simplicity and speed of use. The more familiar I become with the payroll the quicker I find it to process monthly wages. You don't need any training to use BrightPay as it's so user-friendly. I only needed to contact the support centre on a couple of occasions. When I was first setting up I have a query but that was more lack of understanding on my part. I had a question about the terminology of information used by NEST pensions - their response was what I consider to be more than acceptable.

I have since only had one other query regarding the licence which was quickly explained by email. It appears to me that BrightPay is a company who still believe in giving excellent customer service. Unlike Sage (to them I was just an account number to "up-sell" their latest product) who are not bothered to quantify their customers' needs. I've no regrets making the move from Sage to BrightPay. I'd recommend it to any business who wants an easy to use and simple payroll process. The customer support team are always there if you need help.
